Job description

Swing Shift Facilities Maintenance Technician

Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 545,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called GigaOne. We are the world’s first mesh energy infrastructure, uniting communities through resilient, sustainable, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid. Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.

Torus has raised over $267 million from investors like Magnetar, Mercado, ICONIQ and Origin Ventures. The investments are helping to accelerate deployment of modular power plants across utilities, data centers, and industrial sectors. This investor confidence reflects the strength of our team, technology as well as the scale of the problem we are solving.

At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports and strengthens our electrical grid, critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.

About the Role

As the Swing Shift Facilities Maintenance Technician at Torus, you will serve as the mechanical and operational backbone of our physical environment during night operations. Reporting to the Facilities Lead, you will execute task priorities handed off by the day shift crew while maintaining a strong, reliable presence on the floor to independently troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise.

In this highly dynamic role, you will be a proactive, high-energy problem solver responsible for a wide spectrum of technical trades—ranging from precise interior finishes and contractor oversight to supporting the setup, commissioning, and maintenance of industrial machinery, conveyor systems, and high-pressure pneumatic airlines. Operating without on-site day-shift support, you will take ownership of your shift by preventing downtime, executing facilities tasks safely, and keeping our production environment running smoothly.

Who You Are

You are a versatile, multi-talented facilities professional who takes deep pride in the physical space around you. Driven by a strong internal motor, you are comfortable working independently without direct oversight, exercising sound technical judgment, and addressing building and utility needs with high energy and urgency. You possess a confident, capable presence on the floor, excellent hands-on problem-solving instincts, and strong communication skills to interpret English technical manuals and coordinate with night contractors or shift staff. You are a growth-minded practitioner eager to apply your broad building trades skills and build a long-term career alongside our rapidly evolving team.

Responsibilities

General Facilities & Building Care
  • Task Execution & Handoffs: Safely and efficiently complete daily task lists and priority facilities assignments handed off by the day-shift Facilities Lead.
  • Interior Finishes: Perform high-quality structural and cosmetic repairs, including drywall patching, framing, painting, door/hardware repair, and general interior maintenance.
  • Building Infrastructure & Grounds: Oversee basic exterior facility care, building access points, outdoor safety compliance, building signage, and general property aesthetics during swing shift hours.
  • Material Storage Solutions: Maintain and optimize inventory and material storage systems to maximize warehouse and facility space utilization.
Facility Utilities & Mechanical Systems
  • Pneumatics & Utility Piping: Install, repair, and perform routine maintenance on facility air compressors, high-pressure water lines, and pneumatic piping systems.
  • Conveyor Mechanics: Assemble, repair, align, and perform preventative maintenance on facility conveyor systems to support internal material flow.
  • HVAC & Minor Electrical Upkeep: Conduct routine maintenance, filter changes, and basic troubleshooting on HVAC units, as well as minor electrical fixes (e.g., replacing lighting fixtures, outlets, and switches).
Shift Self-Reliance & Safety
  • Independent Issue Resolution: Proactively identify facility, lighting, or utility deficiencies during night operations and resolve them before they impact shift operations.
  • Contractor Point-of-Contact: Act as the primary on-shift contact for third-party night contractors (e.g., janitorial crews, specialized trade technicians, landscape providers), ensuring work meets Torus standards.
  • 5S & Shop Organization: Maintain clean, organized facility supply rooms, maintenance shops, and storage bays.
  • Safety & Compliance: Read and strictly follow facility blueprints, technical manuals, OSHA standards, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols without requiring continuous oversight.
  • Other Duties: Execute additional facility maintenance tasks and shift support projects as assigned by management.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Commercial & Industrial Facilities Upkeep: Demonstrated experience in general building maintenance, including drywall patching, framing, painting, carpentry, and interior finishes.
  • Pneumatics & Industrial Utilities: Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting facility air compressors, pneumatic drop lines, and high-pressure utility piping.
  • Conveyor Maintenance: Practical experience assembling, aligning, and repairing mechanical conveyor systems.
  • HVAC & Minor Electrical: Basic-to-intermediate understanding of HVAC operation and ability to safely perform minor electrical work (e.g., wiring fixtures, replacing switches, circuit reset procedures).
  • Vendor/Contractor Oversight: Capability to monitor external service providers working on site during swing shift hours.
  • Storage & Space Optimization: Ability to construct, assemble, and organize rack storage and inventory layouts.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & SOFT SKILLS
  • Independent Drive & Reliability: High level of self-motivation and accountability to work productively during night hours with minimal supervision.
  • Strong Presence & Communication: Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English; capable of clearly interpreting technical manuals, facility blueprints, and communicating shift handoffs to day-shift leadership.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in tight or elevated spaces, and stand/walk on concrete floors for full shifts.
  • Adaptability: Agility to pivot quickly from routine facility repairs to urgent building utility fixes as shift needs change.
