Independence Family Animal Care is seeking a Gilt Development Unit Lead to oversee the health and growth of replacement gilts. You will manage daily operations, supervise staff, and implement protocols for gilt selection, nutrition, biosecurity, and health management to support herd performance.

The role requires leadership, 2+ years in swine production, and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment, with weekend rotation and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 2+ years in swine production, preferably gilt development.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Knowledge of gilt selection, breeding, and herd health management.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
• Familiarity with swine regulations and biosecurity protocols.

Responsabilités

• Oversee daily care, feeding, and health of developing gilts.
• Implement gilt selection criteria for high-quality replacements.
• Identify and address health issues promptly.
• Manage acclimation and isolation protocols for incoming gilts.
• Monitor growth, reproductive performance and development.
• Enforce biosecurity protocols to prevent disease.
• Maintain records of gilt inventories and health treatments.
• Ensure compliance with policies and animal welfare regulations.
