Job summary

The Stuart C Gildred Family YMCA in Santa Ynez, CA is seeking a part-time Swim Team Coach to guide swimmers using YUSA plans, manage meets, and keep families informed about progress and program details.

You will support a welcoming, inclusive environment, deliver exceptional service, and participate in trainings to grow professionally while upholding YMCA values.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance, if over 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; valid work permit required if a minor.
• Previous work experience with children or in related field preferred.
• If applicable, complete YUSA swim instructor certification within 90 days of hire,
• Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire
• Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire

Responsibilities

• Follow YUSA lesson plans and apply stroke progression with core values.
• Manage, schedule, and conduct swim meets.
• Communicate program info and child progress to families.
• Market the swim team program within the community.
• Complete swim assessments, evaluations and certificates.
• Identify and correct swimming techniques as needed.
• Maintain attendance records and ensure safe releases to caretakers.
• Provide exceptional customer service and foster member connections.
• Participate in in-service trainings and ongoing professional growth.
• Ensure a welcoming, inclusive environment for all members and guests.
• Ensure facilities, grounds, and equipment are safe and report concerns.

What does a Swim Team Coach do?

• Follow YUSA established lesson plans, understand stroke progression & implement the Core Values into lesson plans
• Manage, schedule, and conduct swim meets
• Communicate with families on a regular basis about program information and child’s progression in swimming
• Markets swim team program within the community
• Complete swim assessments, evaluations, and certificates of completion
• Identify incorrect swimming techniques and provide correction
• Adjust teaching techniques according to swimmer’s needs
• Maintain tracking of class attendance. Ensure participants are released to caretakers
• Provides exceptional customer service and fosters connections with members
• Participating and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings
• Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive for all members and guests
• Able to work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a staff team
• Ensure building, grounds, and equipment are in working order. Report any concerns
• Maintain certifications and take advantage of professional growth opportunities
• Support the annual campaign process including education of members
• Understand your role as a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse. Report and respond to situations in accordance with policies and procedures
• Ensure safety of children in facilities and programs and that proper supervision is provided
