City of Longmont Recreation Services seeks a Swim Lesson Specialist to plan, organize, and supervise the City’s progressive learn-to-swim program. You will coordinate operations, support staff, and promote skills development for participants.

Hiring Range: $27.18 - $30.20/hour
40 hours per week, Sunday–Thursday

Definition:
The Swim Lesson Specialist plans, organizes, schedules, supervises, implements, and evaluates the City of Longmont’s progressive learn-to-swim lesson program. This position ensures safe, high-quality, and engaging aquatic instruction by coordinating program operations, supporting swim lesson staff, and promoting participant skill development and positive experiences.
Principal Duties:
Assist with overseeing Longmont’s Swim School, ensuring high quality program curriculum along with the recruitment, hiring, training, retention, and scheduling of swim instructor staff. Be able to teach all levels of Longmont Swim School classes. Lead, inspire, and motivate swim instructors to continue learning and growing their teaching skill sets.
Working Environment:
Working conditions are performed either indoors or outdoors and involves exposure to hot and cold temperatures, high humidity, direct sun and/or moderate to loud background noise. Work requires frequent use of fingers and hands, walking and standing, hearing, speaking, problem solving, math, communications and customer contact, handling multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, custodial duties, slippery/uneven walking surfaces, working alone or working closely with others. Work may require up to four hours per shift in chemically treated water. Work occasionally involves light/moderate lifting and carrying (1-49 lbs.), bending, stooping, and kneeling.
Qualifications:
At least three years of any combination of experience of teaching a variety of swim lessons, coaching swim teams, and/or managing a swim lesson program. A minimum of one full year of aquatic facility supervision and management. CPO or AFO certification desirable. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer preferred. Demonstrated ability to swim.
Special Qualifications: Current certifications in American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer. WSIT and LGIT are desirable. CPO or AFO or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
