Job summary

The Southeast Family YMCA in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Swim Lesson Instructor to teach swimming skills according to YMCA guidelines, ensure safety, and promote a positive learning environment for children and adults.

Applicants must be at least 16, hold CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications, and demonstrate solid communication and teamwork while maintaining records and using lesson plans.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Ability to interpret and apply YMCA guidelines and lesson plans.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Communicate and promote the YMCA mission, goals and objectives to employees, volunteers and the community at large.
• Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
• Serve in an advisory capacity to insure a safe aquatic environment is maintained at the YMCA aquatic facility.
• Promote a safe and positive atmosphere during scheduled working hours.
• Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; help them connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc).
• Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refer students and parents to other programs.
• Organize and put away needed equipment. Report damaged equipment.
• Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the Director of Aquatics.

The position requires ability to instruct and observe participants in swim skills advancement and proper stroke techniques.
