Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Springfield is seeking a dedicated Swim Instructor to teach swimming techniques and water safety to individuals of all ages in a safe, engaging setting.

You will plan lessons, monitor safety, provide demonstrations, and communicate progress to families while maintaining records and adapting sessions to learners' needs. Strong swimming skills and CPR/First Aid certifications are essential.

Qualifications

• Prior experience teaching swimming lessons or working with children is preferred.
• Strong swimming skills and knowledge of swim strokes and water safety.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications are required.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, enthusiasm, and genuine interest in helping others learn to swim.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct swim lessons for students of varying ages and abilities.
• Ensure safety by enforcing pool rules and supervising swim areas during lessons.
• Provide clear instructions, demonstrations, and feedback to help students improve.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.
• Communicate with parents/guardians about progress and upcoming classes.
• Prepare lesson plans aligned with curriculum and adapt for individual learning needs.
• Set up and clean up equipment before and after each class.
• Respond to emergencies in accordance with training and facility procedures.
