Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Report directly to immediate supervisor, the Swim Instruction Coordinator.
• Maintain a professional, courteous, and compassionate relationship with all participants and parents.
• Complete all paperwork required by the Red Cross within the allotted time following each session.
• Ability to provide all levels of swimming instruction.
• Responsible for all equipment and supplies belonging to the City and keep storage area, etc. neat and secure.
• Maintain open communications with all staff, participants, and parents of the program.
• Work cooperatively with all team members and parents involved in the program.
• Assist the coordinator in completing and distributing evaluation forms for program participants.
• Ensure a safe environment for all participants and staff.
• Work all assigned hours as designated by supervisor.
• Perform any other job duties as directed by supervisor.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• 16 years of age or older (work permit required for those under the age of 18).
• Previous experience as Water Safety Instructor and/or Water Safety Aide.
• Knowledge of Red Cross Swimming Program.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly exposed to water. The employee is constantly required to remain in the water; to reach items at various depths within the pool, and to constantly position self to maintain access to swimming participants. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-pound items. Must be able to observe participants’ swimming skills and abilities and adjust instruction techniques. Employee must be able to work demanding hours in season.
