Primary Objective of Position

To empower every participant with the skills, knowledge, and confidence in their swimming ability to maintain a lifelong commitment to safety, wellness, and enjoyment in the water.

Paid Swim Instructor Training Program

We provide paid Swim Instructor training for new Aquatics staff. New instructors will complete 6-10 hours of shadowing, observing certified instructors and gaining valuable teaching skills before leading classes independently. An extensive training program at the start of each summer covers communication with parents and kids, and effective teaching techniques. Staff also participate in periodic trainings throughout each session.

Wages:

  • Starting pay ranges from $15.00 to $15.75 per hour, depending on experience and certifications.
  • Pay schedule details can be found in Appendix D.
  • This position is not benefit-eligible.
Job Responsibilities
  1. Teach swimming lessons following Minnetonka Aquatics' skills progression for children and adults.
  2. Help swimmers develop water safety, survival, and swimming skills.
  3. Ensure a safe and positive environment for all participants.
  4. Greet visitors and provide information about facilities and programs.
  5. Communicate progress with parents.
  6. Enforce pool policies, rules, and regulations.
  7. Respond effectively in emergencies.
  8. Complete necessary records and reports.
  9. Monitor facility and equipment safety.
Job Qualifications
  • Experience working with children.
  • Confidence and competence in teaching swimming lessons.
  • Leadership and public relations skills.
  • Positive interpersonal skills to relate to children and adults.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Punctuality and responsibility.
  • Must be at least 14 years old.
