Responsibilities:

• Ensure practice time is sufficient for all students to learn skills
• Follow logical skill progressions
• Foster personal growth, safety, stroke development, and fun during lessons
• Recognize and correct improper strokes with positive feedback
• Communicate effectively with students in a patient, friendly manner
• Act as a positive role model

Qualifications:

• Must be 16 or older
• Current YMCA Swim Lesson or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification, or complete Southeast Ventura County YMCA training before first lesson
• Ability to swim 50 yards freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke with proper technique
• Current certifications: CPR PRO/AED/First Aid from recognized organizations (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Safety & Health Institute)
• Effective communication skills with swimmers and parents/guardians
• Ability to plan, lead, and participate in swim lessons
• Ability to lift equipment and small to average children
• Ability to supervise children and spend 2-4 hours in the water
• Ability to instruct and observe proper stroke techniques
• Sufficient strength and reaction skills for emergency situations

Salary: $17.86 per hour
