Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee in Brown Deer, WI, is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to lead classes under the YMCA Swimming Lesson Program. You will teach all levels, engage participants, and work to build meaningful relationships with families.

Requirements include CPR/AED, First Aid, and YMCA instructor certification within specified timelines; ability to pass a swimming skills test and work in hot, humid pool environments is necessary.

Qualifications

• CPR/AED certification for the Professional Rescuer preferred, but may be completed within 30 days of hire.
• Administering Emergency Oxygen and Standard First Aid certifications preferred, but may be completed within 30 days of hire.
• Achieve YMCA Swimming Lesson Instructor certification within 3 months of attaining a Swim Instructor position.

Responsibilities

• Conduct all swim classes per YMCA of the USA program in an enthusiastic way.
• Teach all levels, maximize participation, complete required paperwork.
• Communicate student progress to swimmers/parents throughout a session.

Responsibilities:

• Conducting all swim classes in accordance with the YMCA of the USA’s Swimming Lesson Program in an enthusiastic and exciting way.
• Prepared to teach all levels of swimming, maximize swimmer participation every class period, complete and turn in all paperwork as required by supervisor.
• Communicate student progress to swimmers and/or parents throughout a session with the intention of building meaningful relationships with participants.
• Maintain a professional and responsible attitude and demeanor at all times, but will additionally demonstrate a genuine spirit of silliness that will provide participants with a sense of wonder and happiness by the end of every lesson.

Requirements

• Current certifications in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, and Standard First Aid preferred, but may be completed within 30 days of hire.
• Achieve the YMCA Swimming Lesson (YSL) Instructor certification within 3 months of attaining a Swim Instructor position.
• Must be able to pass a swimming skills test, which includes a 300yd swim with proper demonstration of all required strokes, 3 minutes of treading water, and retrieval of a 10 pound weight from 8-10 feet of water.
• Must be able to teach in hot, humid environments.
• Must be able to understand the mentality of children of various ages and adults and respond to their varying states of mind in a way that is fun-loving, engaging, and captivating to students.
