Job summary

The YMCA in Stillwater is seeking a Swim Instructor to teach swimming skills safely and confidently across age groups. You’ll follow YMCA standards, develop lesson plans, and help participants progress in a welcoming, community-focused setting.

Candidates must hold CPR, AED, First Aid, and O2 certifications, be at least 16, and demonstrate strong communication and safety skills. Ongoing training and a supportive team environment are provided.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years or older and capable of teaching swimming to varied ages.
• Certified in CPR, AED and First Aid, with additional O2 training preferred.
• Demonstrates proficient swim and safety skills with clear communication.
• Experience teaching swimming or water safety is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct swimming lessons for children, teens, and adults of varying skill levels.
• Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with YMCA standards and safety protocols.
• Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback to improve skills.
• Enforce safety rules and maintain a safe pool environment at all times.

Everyone knows the pool is the coolest place to be in the summer. Join our Aquatics Team to make sure everyone can enjoy the pool in a safe and welcoming environment. Whether you’re a lifeguard, a swim instructor, or a little bit of both, you’re going to love working in aquatics at the Y because you’re helping swimmers feel confident and gain experience in the water.

*Starting at $11.50 per hour

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Must be certified in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid.
• Must be 16 years of age and show technical ability in swim skill instruction.
• Proficient and demonstration quality swimming skills and safety skills.
• Previous experience teaching swimming or water safety preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively with diverse age groups and skill levels
• Knowledge of water safety practices and emergency response procedures
• Reliable, responsible, and punctual with a positive attitude
