Swim Instructor (Part-Time) – Make a Splash with the Y!

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Swim Instructor at the YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides proper, safe instruction of all levels of the Y USA swim lessons.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, following lesson plans provided for each class level.
  2. Develops and maintains positive relationships with program participants and parents/caregivers while supporting them in achieving their goals.
  3. Relays information regarding participants' progress as well as other programs to parents/caregivers, when appropriate, while maintaining a friendly and warm atmosphere.
  4. Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, parent handbooks, certificates).
  5. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  6. Attends staff meetings and in‑service trainings when requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Swim Instructor I
  • Must have or obtain CPR Pro and First Aid certification
  • Obtain a state police clearance, a child abuse clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
  • Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.
Swim Instructor II
  • Must have or obtain CPR Pro and First Aid certification
  • Obtain a state police clearance, a child abuse clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
  • Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.
  • High School Diploma
  • 3 years teaching swim lessons experience OR completion of YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (YSLI) Training.
Swim Instructor III
  • Must have or obtain CPR Pro and First Aid certification
  • Obtain a state police clearance, a child abuse clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
  • Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.
  • High School Diploma
  • Meet all requirements for Level II
  • 5 years of experience teaching swim lessons
  • 3 years of experience supervising a staff team
