Job summary

The Swim Instructor at 92nd Street Y in New York teaches youth and adults the fundamentals of swimming and water safety, creating a positive atmosphere that promotes swimmer safety and engagement in line with 92NY policies.

You will ensure pool safety, demonstrate skills as needed, and maintain readiness to enter the water for lessons while following all safety procedures and reporting incidents when they occur.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16.
• Red Cross WSI or equivalent certification.
• Ability to maintain certification-level readiness.
• Must demonstrate WSI skills prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of every individual in and around the pool and facility.
• Be ready to teach and enter the water for lessons when required.
• Instruct levels from deck or in water as appropriate.
• Respond promptly to emergencies per policies.
• Complete incident and accident reports as needed.
• Enforce showers, conduct, food and drink rules.
• Arrange substitute coverage and document time off two weeks in advance.
• Maintain positive relationships with members and staff.
• Know and apply pool safety rules and guidelines.
• Check for hazardous conditions at arrival and during lessons.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Update Aquatics leadership on changes to contact info and schedules.
