Job summary

The YMCA of Superior California is seeking a dedicated swim instructor to provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in private and group lessons, adapting to ages and abilities across diverse backgrounds.

You will instruct participants, maintain records, collaborate with risk-management staff, and foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that supports safety and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Certifications: CPR, AED, First Aid (as listed)
• Must demonstrate swim instructor skills per YMCA standards
• Active YMCA Swim Instructor certification available upon hire

Responsibilities

• Instructs swim lessons per YMCA guidelines with prepared lesson plans
• Develops positive relationships and provides motivation
• Encourages member/parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers
• Communicates aquatics programs and schedules to members
• Maintains attendance and progress records
• Attends required staff meetings and trainings
• Works with risk-management staff to ensure safety
• Follows YMCA policies and safety procedures
• Completes incident/accident reports as necessary
• Organizes and reports damaged equipment
• Works with trainees to deliver high-quality lessons
• Meets supervisor expectations

Education

Active American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification (available upon hire)

Active YMCA Swim Instructor certification (available upon hire)

Job description

Overview

Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in individual and group swim lessons. Instructs diverse community members, including people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swim lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
• Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
• Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Communicates information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs.
• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
• Attends all required staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Works alongside risk-management staff to ensure safety of lesson and program participants.
• Follows and advocates all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
• Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Works alongside trainees to demonstrate high-quality lesson delivery as assigned by management.
• Meets all other expectations and employee requirements as assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications

• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills and competencies in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Active YMCA Swim Instructor certification (available upon hire)
• At least 15 years of age.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child

Posted Salary Range
