Job Summary

Under direct supervision, the swim instructor teaches participants of all ages and abilities how to swim and stay safe in and around water, ensuring a positive learning experience. They observe and enforce all facility rules to prevent accidents or emergencies.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Instruct water safety and swimming techniques following the American Red Cross curriculum.
  • Teach swimming strokes and water safety rules to students of varying abilities.
  • Use teaching aids and props; store equipment properly after use.
  • Evaluate, record, and communicate student progress; provide reports and recommendations.
  • Engage members in aquatics programming and promote participation.
  • Ensure students comply with pool rules and monitor for safety.
  • Use rescue or safety equipment when needed.
  • Identify hazards, make safety recommendations, and follow emergency plans.
  • Maintain cleanliness of pool and locker rooms.
  • Attain and maintain certifications in Water Safety Instruction and CPR.
  • Complete administrative tasks and report equipment issues.
  • Participate in ongoing instructor training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Manager.

Education and Experience
