Job summary

British Swim School is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as swim instructors in the Northern East Bay Area. Instructors teach progressive swim lessons, focusing on safety, water confidence, and skill development for children of various ages.

You will work in a year‑round, indoor environment with a fun, mission‑driven culture. Training is provided, and opportunities for advancement exist as you gain experience and contribute to our life‑saving program.

Qualifications

• Be a swimmer with understanding of four strokes.
• Love working with children and seeing them progress.
• Be upbeat and ready to have fun at work; fun is mandatory.
• Year‑round indoor position; longer‑term employment.
• Able to work weekend mornings (8:45 am–1:30 pm) and weekdays (2:45 pm–7:30 pm).
• Must be able to commute to the Richmond pool.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swim lessons following the British Swim School curriculum.
• Teach safety and water skills to preschool and elementary‑aged students.

British Swim School is a nationwide provider of survival and stroke development swim lessons with an enhanced focus on a gentle, fun, and progressive aquatics program. We are looking for fun-loving individuals to join our award-winning team of swim instructors in the Northern East Bay Area.

Our mission is to prevent accidental drownings by teaching children and adults, in a fun way, how to swim and enjoy the water safely.

British Swim School has been teaching swim lessons via our signature method for 40 years. We are confident we can train anyone on how to teach our curriculum – as long as they enjoy the water and have a passion for child development and helping children to make progress and succeed.

What else is there to know?

• You need to be a “swimmer”. Ideally, you have an understanding of all four strokes and an overall appreciation for the water
• You've got to love working with children and seeing them progress
• You need to be upbeat and ready to enjoy having fun at work. Having fun is mandatory!
• This is a year-round indoor position, and we are looking for longer–term employees.
• Be able to work weekend mornings from 8:45 am-1:30 pm
• Be able to work weekdays from 2:45 pm-7:30 pm
• You need to be able to reliably commute to our pool location in Richmond.

While we teach swimming to people of all ages and abilities, most of our students are preschool and elementary‑aged kids. Our instructors should like working with this age group and be good at making parents feel comfortable. It's helpful if you have experience with children or in a child‑focused job, but it's not required if you can show the right attitude. The job comes with specialized training in our advanced and unique British Swim School approach.

We also have exciting opportunities with our Customer Service Team, even if you're not in the pool. These are the people committed to providing the best service in the industry. In these roles, you might talk to parents on the phone or by the pool. Wherever you are, the aim is to make everyone feel like part of the British Swim School Family as we focus on ensuring the “Survival of the Littlest.”
