JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the instruction of participants, effectively supervise, and motivate class participants to reach their individual goals.
- Maintain a working knowledge of swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards and demonstrate these skills effectively.
- Instruct and evaluate swim lesson participants following YMCA guidelines, and prepare lesson plans accordingly.
- Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents.
- Convey information about aquatics programs and schedules as appropriate.
- Submit completed records on time (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
- Organize and store class equipment properly; report any facility or equipment irregularities to the supervisor in writing.
- Ensure the safety of participants at all times.
- Follow and enforce all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety protocols.
- Be knowledgeable and prepared to implement emergency procedures.
- Report all incidents/accidents using the appropriate form and submit to the supervisor within 24 hours.
- Work scheduled hours, including starting and ending classes on time, staying after class to answer questions, and cleaning up supplies.
- Attend all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
- Support the Strong Community Campaign fundraising efforts.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements:
- Minimum age 18
- At least 2 years of experience teaching the sport
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing for extended periods, walking, lifting, and carrying up to 35 pounds, and communicating verbally.
- Demonstrate maturity, patience, dependability, and a desire to work with all ages, especially children.
- Visual acuity to see all sections of an assigned zone or area.
- Ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
- Maintain alertness and concentration for long periods to ensure participant safety.
- Make independent, sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment.
- Show initiative in the absence of supervision.
- Relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
Job Requirements:
- Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision, and values.
- Attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire.
- Complete BLS/AED, First Aid, O2, and YSL training in accordance with Conditions of Employment.
- Understand and abide by all policies and procedures set by the association.
- Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch.
