Job summary

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Swim Instructor to join our team in Tacoma, WA. You will provide direct instruction for beginner to advanced swimming and safety skills, following age group and class levels.

Key duties include preparing lesson plans, safely teaching lessons, completing incident reports, and maintaining attendance progress records. This is a part-time role with flexible morning shifts and a strong emphasis on community impact.

Qualifications

• Six months or more of related experience (preferred).
• Enjoy working with youth and diverse populations.
• Demonstrate basic swimming skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare class lesson plans with progression of skills for ages/classes.
• Safely instruct swimming lessons and basic/advanced strokes per YMCA guidelines.
• Complete accident and incident reports.
• Maintain records of lesson attendance and progress.
• Contribute to fundraising goals by telling the Y story and supporting campaigns.
• Assist with staff recruitment and branch events.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

As a Swim Instructor, you will provide direct leadership, prepared instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes. If hired, you will instruct beginning to advanced swimming and safety skills according to age group and class swim level.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare class lesson plans with a natural progression of appropriate skills for the abilities and ages of the classes.
• Safely instruct swimming lessons in basic and advanced stroke skills according to class swim level as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
• Complete accident and incident reports.
• Assist with keeping accurate records of lesson attendance and skill progression.
• Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
• Assist staff leadership team in reaching campaign goals through recruiting campaigners, making personal asks and supporting branch events.
• Cleaning and sanitation protocols will be required of all staff.
• Staff will be responsible for frequent touchpoint cleaning and sanitizing in specific areas.

• Occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift or move a higher amount.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Regularly in the water.

Wage: $17.32 to $17.82 per hour, depending on qualifications

Hours: Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week- Morning Shift
