Job summary

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is hiring a Swim Instructor to join our aquatics team at Cecil Pruett Community Center YMCA in Georgia. You will provide direct instruction in swim classes, plan lessons, and support members and families.

You will build positive relationships, promote safety, maintain records, and ensure adherence to YMCA guidelines while supporting volunteers and staff in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Ability to demonstrate swim instructor skills to YMCA standards.
• Must pass a background check and program trainings.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, with prepared lesson plans.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with participants, families, and volunteers.
• Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules; refer participants to other programs as needed.
• Maintain attendance and progress records for participants.
• Follow all YMCA policies and safety procedures; complete incident reports as necessary.
• Organize and put away class equipment; report damaged equipment.
• Train and supervise class aides as assigned.

The Swim Instructor maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swim classes.RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.Develop and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.Maintain records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.Organize and put away needed class equipment.
