Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta is seeking a dedicated Swim Instructor for the McCleskey East Cobb YMCA location in Georgia. You will lead swim lessons, ensure safety, and foster a welcoming environment for participants of all ages.

Responsibilities include instructional planning, program coordination, and collaboration with volunteers and staff to support literacy, wellness, and community goals through aquatics programs.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate swim instruction skills per YMCA standards.
• Ability to maintain safety during classes and lifeguard-like vigilance.
• Build positive relationships with participants, families, and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming lessons per YMCA guidelines with prepared lesson plans.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, members and families.
• Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules to participants and families.
• Maintain attendance and progress records as required.
• Follow all YMCA policies and safety procedures and complete incident reports as needed.
• Organize and store class equipment and report damaged items.
• Train and supervise class aides as assigned.

Nature And Scope

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Swim Instructor maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swim classes.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including, But Not Limited To)

• Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.
• Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
• Maintain records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
• Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organize and put away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Train and supervise class aides as assigned.

Requirements

• At least 16 years of age
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications required
• Intro to the Y’s Cause and Culture, Living our Cause & I Hear you. Service with Care e-learning within first 30 days
