YMCA of Southern Maine is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to develop and deliver safe, enriching youth and family swim programs in Freeport, ME. You will work under the Program Director, teaching scheduled lessons and supporting community activities while upholding the YMCA Promise and equity decisions.

Shifts include Monday–Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings; flexibility may be required. Certifications will be completed during onboarding; background check is mandatory.

Formación

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Experience working with youth preferred.
• Certifications are required for this position, and training will be provided.
• Criminal background check required; may include fingerprinting via OCFS, paid by YMCA of Southern Maine.
• Redwoods Child Safety Training within 30 days of hire.
• Detail oriented, reliable, punctual.
• Ability to travel locally.

Overview

This position will work under the direction of the Program Director to develop and instruct safe, enriching and effective youth and family swim programs that meet the needs of participants and the community.

Schedule:

• Monday's-Thursday's from 4:00PM–6:30PM


• Saturday's from 8:30AM–11:30AM


• *Shifts and hours are subject to change .

Responsibilities

• Programming – Provides quality and timely guidance, instruction and support to all members through proper instruction in group settings. Educates adult members on current relevant principles, practices and research, and healthy lifestyle information as relevant to child’s swim class, or child, as interested. Provides effective individual supervision and encouragement during program time. Regularly supports programming by teaching swim lesson, assisting with special Y activities and events, and other duties as needed.


• Leadership – Is a collaborative, engaged, and active participant in our Association, including communicating in an effective and timely manner and making sound decisions.


• Relationship Building – Develop positive, authentic relationships within the Y that lead to greater awareness of the Y’s mission and impact, growth in number of people served, as well as revenue. Listens and expresses self effectively and with an understanding of the needs of a particular audience.


• Personal Growth – Maintains a high degree of emotional maturity and interpersonal skills and is committed to personal growth and skill acquisition.


• Operations & Safety - Maintains a professional and clean environment, including equipment and surrounding work areas. Ensures all equipment is in working order and, if applicable, maintenance records are properly documented; reports any concerns to supervisor. Provides rapid and timely response to all accidents, situations, incidents and emergencies appropriately, calmly and professionally using proper techniques and completes incident reports as needed.


• Mission Advancement - Is an advocate for the Y by promoting our cause. Supports philanthropy by increasing awareness about the annual campaign within the Y community.


• Data Tracking & Documentation –Maintains accurate and consistent data tracking and documentation, as required.

Qualifications

• 16 years of age or older.


• Experience working with youth, preferred.


• Certifications are required for this position but do not need to be held at the time of hire. Candidates must be willing to complete all required certifications, and training will be provided.
  
  
  
  • Professional Rescuer, CPR/AED/Basic First Aid, Emergency O2.
  
  
  • Successful completion of Principles of Youth Development, Youth Swim Lesson V-6 prerequisites and Swim Instructor class. (Required prior to working shifts as a swim instructor)
  
  
  • Redwoods Child Safety Training (or within30 daysof hire).
  
  
  
  


• Detail oriented; extremely reliable, dependable, and punctual.


• Ability to travel locally.


• A criminal background check isrequiredand may include fingerprinting through the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), prior tohire. This will be paid for by the YMCA of Southern Maine.
