The Y in Central Maryland is looking for a passionate Swim Instructor to teach swim lessons, promote safety, and engage participants in our swim program. Join a mission-driven organization dedicated to community well-being.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Swim Director, the Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swim lessons according to YMCA guidelines, ensuring safety, and engaging participants during lessons.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ensure the safety of all swimmers during lessons and enforce pool rules.
• Arrive at least ten minutes before your shift in uniform for briefings.
• Conduct classes following YMCA aquatic program standards, adapting as needed.
• Evaluate students' abilities and ensure progress through adherence to standards.
• Attend all scheduled classes; arrange substitutes and provide lesson plans if absent.
• Promote participation in the Y Swimming Lessons program.
• Assist with administrative tasks as needed.
• Prepare and clean up the program area and equipment.
• Engage and assist participants when not actively teaching.
• Maintain a professional, clean, and safe environment.
• Work effectively with diverse populations of all ages, genders, and orientations.
• Attend all required meetings.
• Incorporate YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
• Communicate the YMCA mission and objectives to the community.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
