Position Summary
The Y is a leading nonprofit for strengthening community, and the nation’s largest provider of swim lessons to increase skill and safety in and around water. This position provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

Essential Functions
- Assists swim instructor in delivery of swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, following YMCA lesson plans accordingly.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with instructor, students, and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
- Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
- Assists in maintaining class records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
- Attends staff meetings and in-service trainings as scheduled.
- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, best practices, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures, supporting the associations’ philanthropy efforts. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Position is identified as safety sensitive and subjected to required, random drug testing as scheduled.
- Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
- Cooperate and interact with all members, staff, program participants, and volunteers in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner.

- Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned periodically by the supervisor.
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants.
- Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.

Qualifications
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer (BLS), AED, Oxygen Administration, & Basic First Aid certification.
- Must have a CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR get certified within 90 days of employment.
- Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with stage 4 or higher with YMCA standards.
- At least 15 years of age.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
- Ability to lift and pull equipment 50 pounds, and to lift a small to average size child.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be in good physical condition to teach classes.
- Must have the ability to work inside and outside (i.e. humidity, hot, cold, inclement weather conditions).
- Must have the ability to concentrate in a loud environment.
