Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA is seeking a Swim Instructor to teach swim lessons and promote water safety. You will apply varied teaching methods to accommodate different ages and abilities while maintaining a safe learning environment.

The role requires two years of high school education, Lifeguard and WSI certifications (or obtain within 90 days), and CPR/AED/First Aid. Compensation ranges from $13.00 to $18.00 per hour with benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years high school education.
• Minimum one year lifeguard experience preferred.
• WSI Certification or obtain within 90 days of hire date.
• BLS Certification (CPR/AED, First Aid) required.
• Lifeguard Certification through ARC or equivalent.
• Experience with children and adult lessons (private and group).

Responsibilities

• Teach swim lessons with thorough knowledge of swimming and water safety.
• Apply teaching methods suitable to age and ability of participants.
• Ensure all areas are safe and comply with facility policies.
• Communicate progress to participants and parents as appropriate.
• Respond to emergencies per facility action plans.
• Complete records and reports in a timely manner.
• Participate in regular in-service trainings and mandatory sessions.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare: Teach swim lessons

Responsibilities

• As a swim instructor, you need thorough knowledge and application of swimming and water safety skills.
• Thorough knowledge and application of teaching swimming and water safety skills.
• An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures.
• Leadership and public relations skills.
• Communication skills.
• Decision-making skills.
• Be familiar with water safety courses and know how to use course materials effectively
• Adapt your teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants, so they can meet course objectives
• Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe
• Cover all material required in a level
• Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress
• Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans
• Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
• Complete records and reports
• Participate in regular in-service training sessions
• Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor

What We Require

• Education: Minimum two years high school education.
• Experience: Minimum one year lifeguard experience preferred. Previous swim lesson instruction preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: WSI Certification or Obtain within 90 days of hire date American Heart Association BLSCertification (CPR/AED, First Aid) Lifeguard Certification through American Red Cross or otherapproved certifying body.
• Other: Previous work with children and adult private lessons and children group lessons.
• Compensation Range: $13.00 - $18.00 Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
