Job description

Join to apply for the Swim Instructor role at YMCA of the Inland Northwest

Support the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Teach swim lessons in accordance with YMCA policies and Y-USA instructor training. Build relationships with swim lesson participants across beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.

Essential Functions

1. Plan and teach swim instruction tailored to participants' abilities and swimming levels.
2. Maintain equipment inventory by selecting, storing, and issuing swim lesson equipment.
3. Evaluate participants' abilities and needs, providing alternative activities to ensure an enjoyable experience.
4. Enforce safety rules and regulations for the aquatic facility and equipment.
5. Monitor progress and communicate feedback to participants and families.
6. Track attendance and manage group lessons of up to ten participants.
7. Follow all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies, responding appropriately in emergencies.
8. Attend staff meetings and training sessions to maintain and enhance skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 15 years.
• YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification preferred.
• Excellent communication and listening skills.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
• Complete YMCA required training upon hire.
• Ability to develop positive relationships with individuals from various backgrounds.

Starting Pay: $17.16/hr
