Job summary

The YMCA of Coastal Carolina is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor in Pawleys Island, SC. This role provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swim classes within a welcoming, supportive environment.

Responsibilities include delivering lessons per YMCA guidelines, building relationships with participants and families, maintaining records, and ensuring safety. Certifications in CPR, AED, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen are required.

Qualifications

  • MCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications required.
  • Complete all assigned Redwoods trainings (CAP, BBP, etc.).
  • Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • At least 16 years of age.

  • Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.
  • Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs. Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment. Trains and supervises class aides as assigned. Performs all other duties as assigned.

  • Complete all assigned Redwoods trainings (CAP, BBP, etc.). Child Abuse Prevention supports the YMCAs commitment to child abuse prevention by: reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor, following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children, reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor, and completing all child abuse prevention training as required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • At least 16 years of age.
