An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Aquatics Instructor to provide quality swimming and water safety instruction. This role involves ensuring a safe environment for all participants, enforcing pool rules, and delivering engaging swim lessons tailored to various skill levels. The ideal candidate will possess strong swimming skills, knowledge of lifesaving techniques, and the ability to communicate effectively with students and their families. Performs intermediate aquatic support planning, organizing while providing quality swimming and water safety instruction in group and private settings. Does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Aquatics Division Supervisor.
This is medium work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is necessary for depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing the surroundings and activities. The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, noise, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Responsibilities include:
Thorough knowledge of water safety rules, lifesaving, and first aid practices and techniques, with the ability to perform them. Considerable skill and strength in swimming. Ability to enforce rules and remain calm under stress. Ability to teach in a group setting and connect with people of varying comfort levels and aquatic skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public. Knowledge of the City of Monroe and Monroe Aquatic and Fitness Center policies and procedures.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation or work permit. Possession of a valid driver’s license in North Carolina, state identification card, or work permit. Visiting students may provide out-of-state driver licenses. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification is preferred, along with First Aid, CPR, and AED training. Ability to obtain a full teaching session including safety training with a Monroe Aquatic Fitness Center Swim Instructor within 30 days.
