Job summary

The Carls Family YMCA in Milford Township is seeking a Swim Instructor to lead swimming classes and develop engaging lesson plans that build confidence and safety in students of all ages.

Required are high school education, CPR/First Aid/AED and Emergency Oxygen certifications, plus YMCA Swim Instructor certification or training provided. Strong communication with parents and a commitment to safety are highly valued.

Qualifications

• High school level education (16+ years)
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, and Emergency Oxygen
• Current YMCA Swim Instructor certification OR training provided.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons and prepares lesson plans according to the YMCA.
• Builds effective relationships with parents and students to communicate progress and accomplishments.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers students to other programs.
• Maintains records and attends meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Swim Instructor provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS

• At a minimum, some high school level education (over 16+ years of age)
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, and Emergency Oxygen
• Current YMCA Swim Instructor certification OR training provided.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Instructs swimming lessons and prepares lesson plans according to the YMCA.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with parents and students to connect and inform parents of each other and student’s accomplishments.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers students and parents to other programs.
• Maintains records and attends meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

ABILITIES & SKILLS

• Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
• Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average-sized child.
