Job summary

The YMCA of Indiana County in Indiana, PA is seeking enthusiastic Swim Instructors to join our Aquatics team. Swim Instructors help participants of all ages build confidence in the water, develop swimming skills, and learn important water safety skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 14 years old.
  • Ability to swim proficiently and demonstrate swimming skills.
  • Previous experience with children, teaching, coaching, or aquatics is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable, responsible, and able to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to remain in the water for extended periods and assist swimmers as needed.
  • Commitment to the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Teamwork.
  • Required Clearances and Certifications: FBI Fingerprint Clearance, PA PSP Clearance, PA Child Abuse Clearance, Mandated Reporter Training, Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 90 days, Great American Academy certifications within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Teach swim lessons to participants of various ages and skill levels.
  • Provide instruction on swimming techniques, water safety, and skill development.
  • Create a positive and encouraging learning environment.
  • Monitor swimmers to ensure safety during all lessons.
  • Track attendance and participant progress.
  • Communicate with participants, parents/guardians, and supervisors.
  • Set up and put away lesson equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe pool area.
  • Follow YMCA policies and safety procedures.
  • Attend required trainings, meetings, and safety drills.
