Job summary

YMCA of Greater Brandywine seeks a Swim Instructor to lead instruction and ensure participant safety in our swim lesson program. You will engage members, follow curriculum, greet participants, and support a positive learning environment.

Ideal candidates are 15+ years old, with competitive swimming or teaching experience, and willing to obtain YMCA YSL certification within 6 months. Strong communication with parents and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must be 15 years of age or older.
  • Experience in competitive swimming or teaching lessons preferred.
  • Obtain and maintain YMCA YSL certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Demonstrate all five main strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, butterfly.

Responsibilities

  • Lead swim instruction to develop skills within the prescribed curriculum.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
  • Greet participants and learn their names; communicate with parents/guardians.
  • Assist with drills, events, and required trainings; set up/clean pool area.

Embark on a Journey of Impactful AdventureThe Swim Instructor is responsible for assisting with the instruction of our swim lesson program while providing excellent member service and engagement of program participants. Follow the Association Thunder and Lightning Policy.Assist with the completion of progress reports, mid-session cards, greeting cards and birthdays to ensure all participants receive them in a timely manner.Ensure compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.Perform other related duties as assigned.What You'll NeedMust be 15 years of age or olderExperience in competitive swimming or teaching lessons preferredObtain and maintain YMCA YSL certification within 6 months of hireDemonstrate the ability to relate and positively interact with children and adultsBe able to demonstrate the five main components of swimming - freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, and, preferably, butterflyObtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hireWork Conditions and Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
