Summary

Berthoud’s Swim Instructors are responsible for teaching Berthoud’s Learn to Swim Program, ensuring the safety of participants, and implementing all safety measures in and around the pool area. Availability to work daytime shifts, evenings, and/or weekends is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach swim lessons progressively within the Berthoud Learn to Swim program.
• Create and follow lesson plans with curriculum to promote skill development.
• Evaluate and monitor students’ progress throughout the curriculum.
• Maintain a safe learning environment.
• Promote a positive learning atmosphere.
• Demonstrate professionalism in communication.
• Provide ongoing corrective feedback and relay progress to parents/guardians.
• Enforce all facility rules and regulations.
• Attend required trainings, workshops, and meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience may be considered. Typically:

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Experience working with youth and/or teaching swimming lessons is preferred.
• Ability to demonstrate freestyle and backstroke with proper technique.
• Ability to attend the Berthoud Learn to Swim training within 3 months of hire.
• Ability to demonstrate water safety skills and survival swimming.

Certificates and Licenses

• Must hold a valid American Red Cross CPR/First Aid and AED certification or obtain within 3 months.

Work Environment

The work environment involves indoor settings at the Berthoud Recreation Center, with possible fluctuating water and air temperatures, and moderate to loud noises.

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to sit, use hands, and communicate verbally.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, and focus adjustment.
