Description

The SJCC is seeking a passionate, energetic Full-Time Swim Coach who will be responsible for coaching swim team practices; creating swim workouts aimed at building strong, confident swimmers; monitoring swimmer safety and behavior; organizing and coaching internal swim meets as the team progresses; and, at times, lifeguarding and instructing swim lessons. We are seeking a coach available to work nights and weekends. The SJCC is seeking a passionate, energetic Full-Time Swim Coach who will be responsible for coaching swim team practices; creating swim workouts aimed at building strong, confident swimmers; monitoring swimmer safety and behavior; organizing and coaching internal swim meets as the team progresses; and, at times, lifeguarding and instructing swim lessons. At this time, we are particularly seeking Swim Coaches available for the following shifts:

• Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
• Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00 PM - 5:45 PM
  
  

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and quality environment to train and motivate young athletes in the sport of swimming; instruct swim team participants on swimming stroke techniques and assist with skill improvement
• Plan and supervise daily workouts, as well as group and private/semi-private swim lessons
• Perform work on weekdays, weekends, and evenings as needed to meet scheduling needs
• Support the emotional and social wellbeing of swim students through positive behavior management and supportive interactions
• Oversee the care and operation of equipment and supplies; report maintenance issues
• Track team members' success and results, and take attendance
• Respond to calls, questions, concerns, and feedback from patrons
• Teach group and private/semi-private swim lessons to beginner through advanced swim students
• Participant inclusion: Modify swim lessons and activities to adapt to each swim student’s age, swim level, and needs/abilities
• Maintain timeliness with each swim lesson and follow pool schedule closely
• Write individual evaluations for each swimmer in the swim class and discuss student progress with guardians
• Open and close the pool, depending on shift time, following protocol outlined in the Staff Manual.
• Caution participants regarding safe vs. unsafe behaviors; enforce all safety protocols.
• Rescue participants in danger of drowning; administer first-aid/CPR if required.
• Complete accident reports thoroughly if accidents occur and follow protocol outlined in Staff Manual.
• Substitute for coworkers as needed.
• Follow all emergency procedures at the SJCC
• Attend required staff training and meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned
  
  

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Experience

• Swimming experience.
• Coaching/teaching experience.
• Experience working with children.
  
  

Training And Certifications

• Current Lifeguard and First Aid certification or national equivalent, or willing to complete courses by required deadline(s).
• Current CPR/AED Certification (Adult and Pediatric), or willing to complete course by required deadline(s).
  
  

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Ability to teach and coach the correct swimming technique of the four competitive swim strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly).
• Ability to swim 300 yards freestyle, breaststroke, sidestroke or a combination of these strokes without stopping.
• Knowledge of and ability to teach relevant safety practices in and around the water.
• Ability to coach and empower swim students.
• Ability to exercise good judgment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations.
• Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with colleagues and SJCC guests.
• Ability to work effectively independently and in a team setting.

Physical Demands: To perform the job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, walk, and stand. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, climb, balance, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to lift, push, and/or pull persons or equipment over 100 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Conditions: The work is frequently performed around a pool facility, and in a locker room with a moderate noise level. Surfaces are frequently slippery and wet.

Compensation And Benefits

• Washington State Pay Range: $21.00/hour - $27.00/hour
• Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided based on factors including but not limited to, skills, relevant experience, and specific work location.
