Job summary

YMCA of Greenville is seeking a part-time Swim Coach to lead the swim league program in a safe, engaging manner. You will greet participants, promote practices, and provide progress feedback while upholding a high standard of customer service and safety.

Responsibilities include coordinating with the Aquatics Director, maintaining equipment and uniforms, and delivering quality instruction. A strong commitment to YMCA values and continuous improvement is expected.

Qualifications

  • Must hold USA Swimming Coaching Certification-level one.
  • BLS, First Aid, AED, and O2 certifications required.
  • Lifeguard certification preferred.
  • At least one year of related experience is required.
  • Ability to teach and communicate aquatics skills to participants.

Responsibilities

  • Lead swim practice and greet participants daily.
  • Promote swim league practices and meets; recruit participants.
  • Provide timely feedback to participants/parents on progress.
  • Keep the program fresh with new skills and drills.
  • Coordinate with Aquatics Director to meet program goals.
  • Maintain professional appearance in uniform and provide excellent member service.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, stocked, and organized work area.
  • Report equipment needs or issues to supervisor.
  • Respond promptly to member/guest requests and maintain safety protocols.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and trainings; arrive on time.

Responsibilities
  • Prepared to lead swim practice. Greets and welcomes participants each day. All equipment and instructional methods are appropriate.
  • Promotes all swim league practices and meets and actively recruits individuals to join the team appropriate for their ability level.
  • Provide timely and accurate feedback to participants (or parents) about their progress and skills they need to work on.
  • Keeps program fresh by incorporating new skills and drills to keep participants learning and growing in their skills.
  • Works with the Aquatics Director to ensure program goals are being met and to further develop the program overall.
  • Wears required uniform to convey a professional appearance.
  • Provides excellent service to members, guests and program participants.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, fully stocked and well organized work area.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of any equipment needs or concerns.
  • Handles and resolves concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
  • Provides accurate, appropriate and immediate responses to all requests by members/guests.
  • Leaves the area in a clean and orderly condition by ensuring all equipment is returned to its appropriate area.
  • Maintains required instructional certifications.
  • Works without constant direct supervision.
  • Attends mandatory meetings and in‑services.
  • Reports to work on time.
  • Wears appropriate staff uniform.
  • Participates in Open Doors campaign.
  • Exemplifies YMCA character values.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities
Qualifications
  • Current USA Swimming Coaching Certification-level one.
  • Current BLS, First Aid, AED, & O2 Certification (American Red Cross or equivalent).
  • Must have Safety Training (ARC) within 90 days of start date.
  • At least one year of related experience.
  • Lifeguard Certification.
  • YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or equivalent.
  • Able to teach and communicate aquatics skills to participants.
  • Able to communicate and enforce policies and procedures to members, program participants and guests.
  • Able to react quickly and properly in emergency situations.
  • Must have enthusiasm and possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must complete New Staff Orientation, Blood Bourne Pathogen, and Child Abuse training within first 30‑days of employment.
