Job summary

Devon Energy Corp. is seeking an experienced Salt Water Disposal Pump Mechanic to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain pumps and rotating equipment across SWD facilities.

You will help ensure safe, reliable water handling and disposal operations while traveling between multiple field sites. The role requires hands-on maintenance of H-pumps, PD pumps, and centrifugal pumps, with attention to manufacturer specs and company safety policies.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED and millwright/industrial maintenance preferred.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience repairing centrifugal, PD, or reciprocating pumps.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required.
• Knowledge of oilfield produced water/SWD operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and maintain H-, PD-, and centrifugal pumps used in SWD service.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, including seal replacement and alignment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on pumps, motors, VFDs, and skid equipment.
• Read and interpret pump curves, schematics, P&IDs, and manuals to guide repairs.
• Monitor pump performance and flag equipment nearing failure.
• Install and remove pump skids, piping and related components as needed.
• Coordinate with operators on downtime and repair scheduling.
• Maintain maintenance records, work orders, and parts inventory.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Salt Water Disposal (SWD) Pump Mechanic to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain the pumps and rotating equipment that keep our produced-water gathering, transfer, and disposal systems running safely and reliably. This role works hands-on across SWD facilities, transfer stations, and treatment sites, ensuring pumping equipment operates within manufacturer and company specifications, minimizes unplanned downtime, and supports uninterrupted water handling and disposal operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and maintain centrifugal, positive displacement (PD), and reciprocating/H-pumps used in SWD injection, transfer, and treatment service
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, including seal and packing replacement, bearing and coupling changes, impeller and valve repair, and precision alignment
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on pumps, motors, VFDs, and associated skid equipment
• Read and interpret pump curves, schematics, P&IDs, and manufacturer manuals to guide repairs and setup
• Monitor pump performance (pressure, flow rate, vibration, temperature) and proactively flag equipment nearing failure
• Install, and remove pump skids, piping, and related components as needed
• Coordinate with SWD operators and facility personnel on equipment status, downtime, and repair scheduling
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts/inventory documentation
• Respond to after-hours and on-call service calls to minimize disposal system downtime
• Ensure all work complies with company HSE policies and manufacturer specifications
• Travel between multiple SWD, transfer, and treatment facility locations as required

Required Equipment Experience:

Hands-on experience with the following pump types is required:

• H-Pumps (horizontal centrifugal pumps): experience servicing horizontal centrifugal pumps commonly used in SWD injection, including bearing frame, mechanical seal maintenance and laser alignment
• Positive Displacement (PD) Pumps: experience with plunger, piston, progressive cavity, rotary lobe, gear, diaphragm, or metering-style PD pumps, including relief valve setup, packing/seal service, and troubleshooting pressure and flow issues
• Centrifugal Pumps: experience with ANSI, API, vertical turbine, including mechanical seal replacement, impeller service, bearing/coupling alignment, and vibration troubleshooting

Additional equipment familiarity that is a plus:

• VFDs and pump control/SCADA systems
• Filtration and tank equipment associated with SWD facilities

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required; millwright work, or industrial maintenance preferred
• 3+ years of hands-on experience repairing centrifugal, positive displacement, and/or reciprocating (H-) pumps, ideally in oil & gas, water disposal, or industrial rotating equipment service
• Working knowledge of oilfield produced water/SWD operations
• Basic proficiency with hand tools, precision alignment tools, and diagnostic equipment (vibration analysis a plus)
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently in the field

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

• Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs regularly; occasionally more with assistance
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions at remote well sites and facilities
• Ability to climb, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces as needed
• Ability to respond to on-call/after-hours service needs
• Regular travel between field locations within the operating area required
