Job description

Position Title: SW KC Mkt Medical Technologist Certified Days - Full Time at Olathe Hospital, 20333 W. 151st St.

Position Summary / Career Interest

Performs a variety of laboratory and diagnostic procedures in Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Serology, Coagulation, and Phlebotomy on specimens obtained from clinic patients to provide information for diagnosing and combating disease. The Medical Technologist (Certified) supports the mission, vision, and values of Olathe Medical Services, Inc.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Demonstrates knowledge of laboratory principles and theory; follows approved laboratory test procedures.
  • Works independently, organizing to maximize department efficiency; completes testing within laboratory TAT expectations; takes appropriate action when necessary.
  • Ensures specimen integrity by adhering to test procedures for identification, handling, processing, and storage.
  • Performs instrument start-up, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and documents all actions; takes corrective measures as needed.
  • Performs, evaluates, and documents all required quality control, taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Performs tests accurately, interprets results for correctness and critical limits, and documents findings; takes corrective action if needed.
  • Answers phone and pneumatic tube system promptly and courteously.
  • Provides accurate hand-off communication to the next shift.
  • Assists co-workers across all areas as needed.
  • Assists in training new laboratory employees and students.
  • Must be capable of performing the professional, clinical, and technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Associates Degree with educational requirements to become certified with ASCP, NCA, or AMT, or
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent certification requirements, or
  • Completion of an HEW-approved Medical Technology program or U.S. Military Laboratory training with at least 10 years of hospital lab experience without certification, or
  • One or more years of clinical laboratory experience without a Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Hospital lab experience.
Required Licensure and Certification
  • MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), CLS (NCA), or relevant Specialist Certification (MB, SBB, SC, SH, or SM).
  • Candidates without a Bachelor's degree must be certified as MLT (ASCP), CLT (NCA), MLT (AMT), or equivalent, or have completed a U.S. Military Laboratory training program. Certification must be achieved within 90 days; otherwise, the role will change to non-certified.
