The SVP of Litigation and Risk Management will serve as a strategic partner to the Chief Legal Officer, CEO, finance leadership, and other senior executives. This leader will be responsible for improving litigation outcomes, strengthening risk-management processes, and developing the data and reporting capabilities necessary to support financial forecasting and business decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop litigation strategies for significant, sensitive, and high-value cases in partnership with the Chief Legal Officer and senior leadership
  • Select, manage, and evaluate outside counsel across a substantial external litigation portfolio
  • Establish performance expectations, billing guidelines, case-management standards, and outcome metrics for outside counsel

  • Identify emerging legal and operational risks across the organization and develop proactive mitigation strategies
  • Improve claims-management systems, analytical tools, reporting processes, and data-sharing capabilities
  • Use claims and litigation data to identify trends, evaluate exposure, and provide actionable recommendations to business and executive leadership
  • Advise senior management on litigation exposure, regulatory risks, settlement strategy, insurance coverage, and business implications
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and controls related to claims handling, litigation management, insurance, and risk prevention
  • Provide clear and timely reporting to executive leadership regarding major cases, financial exposure, litigation trends, and risk-management initiatives
  • Foster a proactive, accountable, collaborative, and solutions-oriented culture within the legal and risk management teams
Requirements

  • Active license to practice law and membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
  • Significant litigation and risk management experience within a highly regulated industry
  • Prior in-house legal experience is required
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex litigation portfolios, including high-exposure disputes, class actions, and regulatory investigations
  • Experience overseeing professional liability litigation or claims strongly preferred
  • Proven success leading attorneys, claims professionals, senior department leaders, and outside counsel
  • Experience managing litigation budgets, claims reserves, insurance programs, and departmental financial performance
  • Strong understanding of litigation strategy, claims management, risk assessment, insurance coverage, and financial exposure
  • Ability to evaluate legal risks within the context of broader operational and business objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to develop proactive risk-management and litigation-prevention strategies
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using data to support claims reserving, forecasting, litigation strategy, and executive decision-making
  • Ability to communicate complex legal and financial information clearly to senior executives, finance professionals, and business stakeholders
