Job Summary

The Senior Vice President of Brand Strategy & Product Development will serve as a key leader within the organization, responsible for defining and executing the company’s product strategy from concept through commercialization. This role requires a strategic, commercially minded leader with a deep understanding of market trends, consumer behavior, product development, licensing, retailer requirements, and global sourcing.

The SVP will lead the Product Development and Creative teams in building compelling, trend-right category assortments that are commercially viable, operationally executable, and true to the DNA of the brand and its licensed properties. This leader will partner cross-functionally with Sales, Licensing, Operations, and Sourcing to ensure product strategies and sourcing capabilities align with evolving retailer and licensor requirements, profitability objectives, testing and category needs, capacity, cost, and speed-to-market.

Combining strategic brand and product vision with strong operational discipline, the SVP will ensure products can be successfully developed, tested, approved, manufactured, and delivered within required timelines and financial parameters.

This leader will be a collaborative, diplomatic, and inspiring executive who develops and motivates high-performing teams, drives accountability across functions, and serves as a passionate ambassador for the company’s brands, licensed properties, retail partners, and customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive product and merchandising strategy that drives sales, profitability, market share growth, and long-term brand value, using market research, trend analysis, competitive intelligence, historical sales performance, retailer feedback, and consumer behavior to guide assortment, category, pricing, and product decisions.
  • Lead the development of compelling, trend-right product assortments that align with brand identity, licensed-property DNA, retailer expectations, consumer demand, and overall business objectives while balancing creative innovation with manufacturability, margin, quality, compliance, and commercial viability.
  • Partner closely with Sales, Licensing, Operations, and Sourcing to ensure products are developed for the right customers, channels, price points, and timelines, and that product and sourcing strategies remain aligned with retailer, licensor, and business requirements.
  • Own the master product development and production calendar and oversee Product Development and Creative team execution across all critical milestones, ensuring accountability and on-time completion from initial concept through production, including:
    • Product concepts and specifications
    • Artwork creation, revisions, and approvals
    • Product samples and prototypes
    • Pre-testing and compliance reviews
    • MTS buyer sample submissions and approvals
    • Licensor and retailer approvals, where applicable
    • Production testing
    • Final production readiness and handoff
  • Ensure products are designed and developed to meet MTS pre-testing and production testing requirements, incorporating testing, compliance, retailer specifications, product standards, artwork, packaging, and production requirements early in the development process to minimize failures, delays, rework, and incremental cost.
  • Establish clear cross-functional processes, ownership, and accountability across Product Development, Creative, Operations, and Sourcing to identify and resolve development, testing, approval, sourcing, and production risks before they impact customer commitments or launch timelines.
  • Evaluate and optimize the factory matrix in partnership with Licensing, Sales, and Sourcing to ensure appropriate manufacturing capabilities, certifications, testing expertise, capacity, cost structure, category experience, and speed-to-market; identify capability gaps, qualify and develop new manufacturing resources as needed, and maintain strong factory and vendor partnerships to achieve quality, compliance, capacity, cost, and on-time delivery expectations.
  • Provide senior-level leadership and escalation support on product development and production challenges, driving proactive problem-solving, disciplined execution, and timely decision-making across functions.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing Product Development organization with clear objectives, defined responsibilities, measurable performance expectations, accountability, and succession planning.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strategic and commercially minded leader with strong knowledge of product development, merchandising, sourcing, licensing, and retail.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams and drive accountability across multiple functions.
  • Ability to move effectively between high-level product and brand strategy and detailed execution, including product direction, development calendars, testing, approvals, factory capabilities, and production risks.
  • Strong understanding of the product development lifecycle, including costing, sourcing, artwork and sample approvals, testing/compliance, production, and commercialization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex timelines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to simplify processes and drive efficient execution.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with retailers, licensors, factories, vendors, and cross-functional business partners.
