Job summary

Atlas Search is seeking an SVP, Legal Entity Controller in a Hybrid NYC setting. The role leads US GAAP accounting, external reporting, and SPAC-related financials, partnering with SEC and Corporate Accounting teams.

You will oversee month-end closes, balance sheet substantiation, and external filings like 10-Q, 10-K, and SPAC documents, while coaching a growing finance team and driving process improvements with IT collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
• CPA certification is required.
• 10+ years of related experience in the financial accounting group of a financial services company.
• Big Four public accounting experience preferred.
• Strong technical knowledge of accounting and financial reporting.
• Advanced analytical and Excel skills, project management, and multitasking.
• Strong analytical problem solving, critical thinking, attention to detail, and teamwork, along with strong communication and business writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal entity controller and financial support for firm entities under US GAAP, including Broker-Dealers and SPACs.
• Liaise with SEC Reporting, Corporate Accounting, Regulatory Reporting, Product Control, Tax, Technical Accounting, Treasury, and Cash Management to ensure proper accounting.
• Lead financial and advisory support for new and existing transactions and entity structure changes.
• Oversee the month-end close process and review journal entries for investing activities, financing activities, consolidation of subsidiaries, expense accruals, intercompany activity, and income taxes.
• Oversee and review quarterly and annual financial statements for external reporting in compliance with US GAAP.
• Oversee and review monthly balance sheet substantiation, evaluate expense accruals, resolve issues, and escalate key items to management.
• Prepare and review quarterly SPAC financial statements for external reporting in compliance with US GAAP.
• Oversee and review monthly and quarterly analytical reporting, including commentary on balance sheet and P&L variances.
• Review Forms S-1, 8-K, 10-Q, 10-K, and S-4, along with other SEC filings for SPACs.
• Drive process reengineering, improve efficiency, build controls, and partner with IT on system improvements.
• Develop junior and experienced team members through coaching and mentoring.
• Support the team, department, and business managers on ad hoc special projects.

The Legal Entity Controller is an integral member of the finance team and reports directly to the Financial Controller. The role takes part in accounting and finance processes and in controls over internal and external financial reporting, regulatory reporting, operations, and product control.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide legal entity controller and financial support for firm entities under US GAAP, including Broker-Dealers, and financial support for the firm's special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs)
• Liaise with SEC Reporting, Corporate Accounting, Regulatory Reporting, Product Control, Tax, Technical Accounting, Treasury, and Cash Management to ensure proper accounting
• Lead financial and advisory support for new and existing transactions and entity structure changes affecting the firm
• Oversee the month-end close process and review journal entries for investing activities, financing activities, consolidation of subsidiaries, expense accruals, intercompany activity, and income taxes
• Oversee and review quarterly and annual financial statements for external reporting in compliance with US GAAP
• Oversee and review monthly balance sheet substantiation, evaluate the adequacy of expense accruals, resolve issues, and escalates key items to management promptly
• Prepare and review quarterly SPAC financial statements for external reporting in compliance with US GAAP
• Oversee and review monthly and quarterly analytical reporting, including commentary on balance sheet and P&L variances
