Job summary

OpenAI's Industrial Compute organization is seeking a PCBA Manufacturing Engineer (Sustaining) to support production and continuous improvement of PCBAs used in OpenAI hardware platforms.

The role focuses on sustaining engineering after product launch, partnering with Hardware Design, Quality, Manufacturing, and contract manufacturers to resolve production issues, improve yield, and ensure high-volume manufacturing stability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years supporting high-volume PCBA manufacturing.
  • Experience with SMT, PCB fabrication, and electronic assembly processes.
  • Strong root cause analysis and process improvement skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own sustaining manufacturing engineering for PCBA production across multiple hardware platforms.
  • Drive root cause investigations for defects, field failures, and production escapes.
  • Partner with Hardware Design Engineers to improve manufacturability (DFM/ DFA/ DFT).
  • Support ECOs and manufacturing change implementation.
  • Work with contract manufacturers to improve yield, cycle time, and quality.
  • Analyze manufacturing data to identify recurring issues.
  • Develop CAPAs for manufacturing and supplier quality issues.
  • Travel to manufacturing partners as needed.
