Job description

Are you a sustainability professional with deep expertise in carbon accounting and forest-level auditing? Do you thrive at the intersection of science, policy, and client advisory, helping organisations in natural resource sectors make credible progress on their climate commitments? If so, this role could be a strong fit for you.

What you can expect:

Preferred by Nature is looking for a Sustainability Specialist to strengthen our Sustainability Advisory Services (SER) Division in Indonesia. You will deliver a range of services to clients in natural resource sectors, including carbon assessments, climate accounts, supply chain engagement, and verification audits. Working closely with a regional and global team, you will help clients meet their sustainability commitments, build credible climate strategies, and navigate evolving regulatory and market requirements. This role sits at the heart of a growing service area, with real opportunity to shape how we deliver carbon and climate work across Indonesia and the wider region.

Working with us is never routine, so in your first year you can expect the following areas to be central to your work.
  • Conduct carbon assessments, climate account development, and verification audits for a portfolio of clients in agriculture, forestry, and related sectors.

  • Support clients in developing and implementing climate strategies, including alignment with the SBTi framework and net zero targets.

  • Engage with client supply chains to develop traceability systems, conduct risk assessments, and carry out gap analyses.

  • Contribute to carbon project development in the AFOLU sector, including support for methodology development and PDD preparation.

  • Contribute to sales and business development efforts, including proposal development, client scoping, and market research.

  • Develop and refine internal tools, audit standards, and bespoke verification programmes.

Your first year with us:

Within three months, you will:

  • Build a strong understanding of Preferred by Nature’s SER Division, service portfolio, and key client relationships in Indonesia and the region.

  • Complete onboarding on core frameworks and internal systems, and begin supporting active carbon assessment and advisory engagements.

  • Establish productive working relationships with your team and key internal stakeholders across the organisation.

Within six months, you will:

  • Lead or co-lead carbon assessments, climate account assignments, and desk or on-site audits for assigned clients with growing independence.

  • Contribute to proposals, budgets, and sales meetings, actively supporting the growth of the SER pipeline in Indonesia.

Within twelve months, you will:

  • Independently manage a client portfolio across sustainability advisory, auditing, and carbon project services from scoping to final delivery.

  • Lead the development or contribute substantially to at least one AFOLU carbon project, including methodology or PDD work.

  • Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing, methodology development, and the continued growth of Preferred by Nature’s sustainability services in the region.

Important that you:
  • Hold a Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Climate Accounting, Life Cycle Assessment, Forestry, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Sustainability, or a related field.

  • Bring at least five years of professional experience in agriculture, forestry, financial institutions, certification, sustainability reporting, or ESG.

  • Are willing to travel for approximately 20% of your working time.

  • Have applied the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, ISO 14067, ISO 14064, ISO 14040, and ISO 14044 on multiple projects.

  • Have experience leading forest audits under established standards such as FSC FM, RSPO P&C, or carbon and climate accounting standards.

  • Are familiar with GHG emissions calculation methodologies used in the AFOLU sector.

  • Have experience developing carbon projects in the AFOLU sector.

  • Have developed models in LCA software for calculating potential greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Possess strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills, with the ability to work across cultures and time zones.

Would also be great, but not necessary, if you:
  • Have knowledge of climate strategy development using the SBTi framework.

  • Bring in-depth knowledge of nature-based solutions, biodiversity, and ecosystem restoration.

  • Have experience with PDD development and implementation for carbon projects.

If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you!

What Sets Us Apart:
  • Global work culture

  • High degree of flexibility - remote work, work from home.

  • An in-depth onboarding and professional training that prepares you with the right skills and knowledge to thrive in this role.

  • Excellent opportunities for growth and professional development

  • A friendly, international team of colleagues, with a pleasant work environment
