Job summary

The City of Lansing seeks a Sustainability Coordinator to lead and support initiatives that strengthen our community and environment. You will work with City staff, neighborhood associations, educational institutions, and boards to advance climate action, renewable energy, waste reduction, and water protection.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's in a related field and at least three years of grants experience and sustainability work, with strong communication and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Sustainability, or related field.
• At least 3 years of experience researching external funding opportunities and managing grants.
• At least 3 years of professional sustainability, materials management, or related experience.
• Experience with circular economy concepts and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

• Support new and existing sustainability projects and initiatives.
• Identify and research local, state, federal, and private funding opportunities and administer grants.
• Write grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and support documents tailored to funders.
• Track grant submissions, awards, and reporting deadlines.
• Manage project implementation for grants awarded.
• Conduct baseline assessments of material flows, waste streams, and resource use.
• Identify circularity opportunities across priority sectors.
