Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Farm Sustainability Coordinator near Paarl, Western Cape, to lead organic and regenerative farming initiatives across multiple farms. You will work with farm managers to embed sustainable practices, monitor environmental impact, and drive continuous improvement toward certifications.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in a related field and at least 3 years in sustainability/coordinator roles, with strong data analysis, communication, and training skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Sustainable Agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in farm management, agronomy, or sustainability coordination with emphasis on organic/regenerative practices.
• Knowledge of organic farming standards, soil health principles, and water conservation techniques.
• Experience with data collection and analysis related to environmental monitoring.
• Knowledge of biodiversity conservation strategies in agricultural landscapes.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a farm team.
• Proficiency with farm management software and standard office apps.
• Must hold a valid driver's license and be willing to travel between farm sites in Western Cape.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement farm-level sustainability plans focusing on organic principles, soil health, water conservation, and biodiversity.
• Monitor and assess current farming practices for their environmental impact and identify areas for improvement.
• Assist in achieving and maintaining organic certifications and other relevant sustainability standards.
• Conduct soil and water quality testing and analyze results to inform management decisions.
• Manage cover cropping, composting, and other soil-enrichment programs.
• Oversee biodiversity enhancement projects, such as habitat creation and pollinator support.
• Educate and train farm staff on sustainable farming techniques and best practices.
• Collect and report data on key sustainability metrics (e.g., water usage, energy consumption, soil organic matter).
• Stay informed about current research and best practices in organic and regenerative agriculture.
• Liaise with external stakeholders, including certification bodies and environmental agencies.
