Job summary

Town of Marblehead seeks an Energy and Land Use Planner to lead and coordinate sustainability, energy, and land use initiatives under the Director of Community Development & Planning. The role advances Net Zero goals, climate resilience, and electrification across municipal operations and the community.

Responsibilities include developing policies, tracking emissions, coordinating with departments, staff, and committees, and guiding grant-funded projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Energy or Environmental Policy, or related field.
• Minimum three years of experience in sustainability planning, land use planning, energy efficiency, and/or renewable energy market.
• Experience with local, state, and federal environmental/sustainability regulations is highly desired.
• Experience implementing Massachusetts Green Community Program is highly desired.
• Experience in community engagement, marketing, and outreach.

Responsibilities

• Implements and advances Net Zero Implementation Plan and municipal sustainability initiatives.
• Develops programs related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, climate resilience, and electrification.
• Establishes benchmarks and tracks energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
• Researches energy technologies and funding opportunities to reduce emissions.
• Coordinates with Town departments and committees on sustainability integration.
• Assists with land use planning, zoning, and environmental planning matters.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Energy or Environmental Policy, or related field

3+ years sustainability planning/land use planning/environmental experience

Experience with local/state/federal environmental and sustainability regulations

Experience implementing Green Community/Massachusetts programs

Community engagement, marketing, and outreach experience

Valid Driver's License and travel to Marblehead sites
