Job summary

Berkshire Residential Investments is seeking a Sustainability Intern to support the Berkshire THRIVE initiative. This 12-week in-person program runs June to mid-August, 9:00 am–5:30 pm, Monday through Friday, offering hands-on experience in real estate sustainability projects.

You will develop materials, analyze performance data, and present findings to senior leadership. The role emphasizes confidentiality, organization, and strong communication as you collaborate across Berkshire's

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree with anticipated graduation in 2028/2029.
• Interest in improving sustainability of the built environment.
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
• Available to work in person for ~12 weeks (June–mid-August), 9:00–5:30.
• Ability to present findings to senior leadership.
• Maintain strict confidentiality.
• Detail oriented and organized.
• Effective written and oral communication.
• Excellent customer service and collaboration skills.
• Ability to communicate across Berkshire departments.

What You'll Experience

• Project Presentation - At the end of the summer, you will prepare and deliver a presentation to Berkshire's Senior Leadership Team summarizing a project or key task that you have been working on at Berkshire, the insights you gained through your internship experience, and recommend any process enhancements

What you'll do

As a Sustainability Intern, you'll

• Assist with day-to-day operation of the Berkshire THRIVE Sustainability initiative
• Develop written and presentation materials to assist with sustainability education, marketing initiatives, and reporting activities
• Analyze sustainability performance data including building fund-level utility performance, greenhouse gas emissions, climate risk, green certification status, health and wellness related metrics, and efficiency project tracking
• Conduct research on emerging sustainability trends and technologies
• Support internal sustainability projects and protocols related to due diligence, sustainability performance monitoring, climate risk and resilience, renewable energy and carbon reduction strategies and technologies, education, risk management, compliance, and marketing

Who we're looking for

• Current student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Real Estate, Finance or Business with a specialization in sustainability, environmental science, sustainable investing with an anticipated graduation date in 2028 or 2029
• Passion for improving sustainability of the built environment
• Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook or similar programs
• Available to work in person from June to mid-August (approx. 12 weeks) from 9:00 am-5:30 pm, Monday through Friday
• Ability to present findings to senior leadership
• Able to maintain strict confidentiality
• Detail oriented and organized
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Excellent customer service and collaboration skills
