Sustainability Business Development Manager

Summary:

The primary responsibility is to lead and develop sustainability services within the Americas with a focus on the USA to start with. She / he will be responsible for leading, developing and coordinating all regional and/ or global activities in line with the global sustainability (business development) strategy and program deliveries. She / he will be part of the TÜV Rheinland Business Stream “Products” Global Sustainability Team and responsible for driving the sustainability business development activities for divers product categories (e.g. textiles, hardgoods, electrical, solar and commercial products, medical devices) to meet the needs of TÜV Rheinland customers regionally and globally.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

60% Business Development

  • ■ Responsibility for sustainability business development circling around TUVR’s services for materials, products and packaging for a wide range of industries in the USA.
  • ■ Further develop sustainability growth strategies, incl. service portfolio development and roadmaps.
  • ■ Contribute as sustainability expert to the sales teams’ efforts to grow sustainability services.
  • ■ Support different Business Fields (Softlines, Hardlines, Electrical, Solar & Commercial, Medical) to develop specific regional account strategies, targets and action plans for sustainability services.
  • ■ Ensure that regional teams are aligned and connected with peers across all regions.
  • ■ Identify new and strategic partnership and stakeholder engagement opportunities with a focus on products’ sustainability.
  • ■ Represent TÜV Rheinland Business Stream “Products” at sustainability conferences/ industry events and contribute to working groups/ committees etc.

40% Project Delivery and Technical Support

  • ■ Act as first (technical) contact point in the US for products sustainability services.
  • ■ Support the global development of new services circling around sustainablematerials, products and packaging such as:
    PCF verifications, LCAs, EPDs, ESPR/ Digital Product Passport and more.
  • ■ Support to develop internal programs (SOPs).
  • Train technical experts to become qualified to execute and deliver sustainability services. Additionally, act as local sustainability champion and “train the trainer” to train the sales teams on sustainability topics.
  • ■ Monitor and identify sustainability trends and regulatory updates and inform internal stakeholders and customers regularly.

Candidate Qualification
Education

  • ■ University degree in environmental science & engineering, material science, chemistry and other relevant subjects.
  • ■ Masters or other degree particularly related to sustainability / ESG preferred.

Experience and skills:

  • ■ Passionate about making an impact in sustainability with broad knowledge of ESG trends.
  • ■ >5 years professional experience in sustainability consulting, business development or leading a company’s sustainability program.
  • ■ Demonstrated capability and effectiveness, from strategy setting to detailed execution and achievements.
  • ■ Sector experience in manufacturing industries for electrical, electronic, solar and commercial products (e.g. for batteries), medical devices preferred.

Working knowledge in one or more of the following preferred:

  • ■ Knowledge and experiences in implementing a digital tool/ IT platform regarding supply chain transparency and traceability
  • ■ Experience in all aspects and forms of Circularity of materials, products and packaging
  • ■ Eco-efficient electrical, electronic, solar and commercial products, medical devices
  • ■ Excellent English communication skills in all forms, including written, presentation and public speaking, for engagement with customers, NGOs, industry groups, and internal teams.
  • ■ Customer-focused and demonstrated ability to quickly assess and understand customers’ sustainability challenges and provide applicable technical solutions accordingly.
  • ■ Demonstrated skills in the management of complex strategic projects with challenging deadlines.
  • ■ Strong team player with problem-solving skills.
