Job summary

Yuzu Japanese Sushi Bar in Laguna Beach, CA is hiring a Sushi Chef to join a fast-paced, quality-driven kitchen. You will prepare sushi, sashimi, nigiri, and specialty rolls, maintaining high presentation and food safety standards.

We offer full-time or part-time roles, weekend and holiday availability, competitive pay starting at $18 per hour plus tips where applicable, and opportunities for growth. Ideal candidates have knife skills, seafood handling knowledge, and a team-focused attitude.

Qualifications

• Previous Sushi Chef or Sushi Cook experience preferred.
• Knowledge of sushi techniques, knife skills, and seafood handling.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Food Handler Card required or ability to obtain before starting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare sushi, sashimi, nigiri, specialty rolls and other Japanese dishes to restaurant standards.
• Ensure excellent presentation and consistent quality.
• Maintain freshness and quality of seafood and ingredients.
• Follow recipes, portions and food safety procedures.
• Keep the station clean, stocked and organized during shifts.
• Assist with daily prep and inventory as needed.
• Communicate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house teams.
• Maintain sanitary work environment per health regulations.
• Work efficiently during busy service periods while preserving quality.

We are looking for a skilled, reliable, and team-oriented Sushi Chef who takes pride in preparing high-quality sushi and maintaining the highest food safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare sushi, sashimi, nigiri, specialty rolls, and other Japanese dishes according to restaurant standards.
• Ensure all food is prepared consistently with excellent presentation.
• Maintain freshness and quality of all seafood and ingredients.
• Follow recipes, portioning, and food safety procedures.
• Keep the sushi station clean, organized, and fully stocked throughout each shift.
