Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) Coordinator

Summary

As an SOS Coordinator, you will provide information, referral, and outreach to families of fallen service members. You will work closely with the Casualty Assistance Officer (CAO) to ensure compassionate and continuous care during their grief and adjustment period.

Note: This position is contingent upon the successful award of a current bid contract.

Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions
  • Survivor Engagement & Support: Contact, meet, and follow up with surviving families to provide ongoing assistance; coordinate with the state CAO for care transition.
  • Benefits & Referrals: Guide families on available benefits, programs, and resources; serve as liaison with military/civilian agencies.
  • Event Coordination & Partnership Development: Plan and execute outreach events; build partnerships with organizations offering complementary services.
  • Non-Clinical Support: Assess needs, provide information, make referrals, and follow up on unresolved issues.
  • Resource Management: Maintain resource directories; collaborate with stakeholders to streamline services.
  • Administration & Record-Keeping: Document interactions accurately, maintain confidentiality, and ensure ongoing engagement through personal notes and invitations.
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge
  • Strong communication, organizational, and empathetic skills.
  • Knowledge of Army regulations and survivor benefits.
  • Proficiency in database management and record-keeping.
  • Fluent in English, with effective communication skills with Soldiers, staff, and families.
  • Interpersonal skills and social sensitivity to relate to diverse family backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of related experience.
  • Experience in military, government, or social services support roles.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to travel routinely within 50 miles and for long distances as needed.
  • Favorable FBI fingerprint check and Tier 1 or equivalent security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications in grief counseling, social work, or crisis intervention.
  • Training in trauma-informed care or mental health first aid.
  • Experience with Army Community Service (ACS) or casualty assistance processes.
Pay and Benefits

The hourly rate ranges from $28.85 to $34.62. We offer a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits including health insurance, a 401(k) plan with matching, paid time off, and professional development opportunities.
