POSITION SPECIFICS

The Relationship Violence Outreach, Intervention, and Community Education Center (R-VOICE) at Penn State invites applications for the position of Survivor Advocate & Case Manager.

R-VOICE provides confidential, trauma-informed support to students impacted by sexual and relationship violence, stalking, harassment, and other forms of identity-based harm. Services include advocacy, education, advising, referrals, and crisis intervention, all offered free of charge to Penn State students.

The Survivor Advocate & Case Manager delivers individualized support and advocacy, and serves as an Advisor in university processes, including Title IX proceedings, for students affected by power-based personal violence, including sexual assault, dating or domestic abuse, stalking, and sexual or gender-based harassment.

Job Responsibilities:

Advocacy

  • Provide trauma-informed support and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, stalking, and related forms of harm.
  • Assist survivors in navigating medical, legal, academic, judicial, Title IX, and other campus or community-based support systems.
  • Offer crisis intervention, safety planning, emotional support, and resource referrals
  • Serve as an advisor for victim/survivors during Title IX and similar proceedings, including accompanying survivors to investigative interviews.
  • Supporting understanding of rights, options, and responsibilities; Assisting with preparation for formal hearings; Conducting cross-examination during formal proceedings.
  • Provide survivors with information, options, and referrals to appropriate resources.
  • Function as a liaison between survivors, the broader Penn State community, and local community-based resources.
  • Coordinate on- and off-campus resources to provide comprehensive support for survivors.
  • Work closely with other campus partners and resources as needed.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations supporting the needs of students navigating sexual assault, relationship abuse, stalking, and sexual and/or gender-based harassment.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of on- and off-campus services for survivors.
  • Respond to crises using a trauma-informed and survivor-centered approach.
  • Empower survivors to navigate processes at their own pace, prioritizing their safety and well-being.

Case Management:

  • Collaborate on the intake & case management process with the Director and Support team. This includes addressing referrals, monitoring follow-up and progress for ongoing cases, and meeting with survivors and those seeking support and resources as needed.
  • Complete, accurate, and timely case notes as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to prioritizing survivor wellbeing.

Related tasks:

  • Support the mission, vision, & broader engagement of the Center and its staff.
  • Serve on committees, assist with reception responsibilities, and respond to requests from those visiting the Center as needed.
  • Assist with creating and updating curriculum and presentations as appropriate.
  • Conduct educational programs as appropriate.
  • Have other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of R-VOICE.

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Title IX, sexual misconduct, dating/domestic violence, stalking, protection orders, and related federal and state laws.
  • Understanding of the dynamics of interpersonal violence and systemic oppression.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and ability to develop and implement safety plans.
  • Ability to assess risk, respond to crises, and support students navigating trauma.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect across diverse identities and experiences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity-informed practices supporting student access to resources, community support, and ultimately student success.
  • Ability to provide culturally competent support to students from underrepresented and marginalized communities.
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality and adhere to reporting requirements.
  • Flexible and dependable, with a willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Works well independently and collaboratively, fostering inclusive partnerships across campus.

Preferred certifications and/or licensures:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD), Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Clinical Social Work (CSW), and/or other related certifications and/or licensures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of interpersonal violence and victim advocacy, with a commitment to student well-being, preferred

Minimum Education, Work Experience & Required Certifications

Master's Degree 6+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $51,000.00 - $74,000.00.
