Job summary

RECON, an established environmental and geotechnical contractor, seeks a Surveyor for on-site work in Steubenville, Ohio. You will collect data, perform layout, and support civil earthwork using advanced surveying equipment and coordinate geometry.

Requirements include at least 3 years of field survey experience, proficiency with Total Station, TopCon 3D-Office, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and GPS tools. Outdoor work and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of field survey operations experience on soil or earthwork construction projects.
• Proficiency with Total Station and using prints to calculate exact layout locations with GPS/robotics.
• Basic understanding of earthwork, soils, construction equipment, and methods for civil/environmental work.
• Strong math skills including algebra and trigonometry.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather and environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary survey work to prepare project plans and ensure specs compliance.
• Collect data and conduct topographical surveys to establish baseline, elevation, and boundaries.
• Interpret plans and coordinate critical dimensions for civil earthwork.
• Design, set and operate manual and robotic total station; manage AutoCAD Civil 3D and GPS equipment.
• Calculate terrain characteristics and establish property lines using trigonometry and related methods.
• Install construction staking to define cuts, fills, and alignment for dirt work.
• Manage project documents and resolve field conflicts with the team.
• Collaborate with project management to design practical field solutions.

The Surveyor will collect information, conduct precise measurements, provide survey and layout support for construction projects using coordinate geometry and modern surveying equipment. This position reports to the Project Manager and provides daily survey support to the project management team. This position will be based on-site in Steubenville, Ohio.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary survey work necessary to prepare project plans and ensure proper compliance with specifications and the scope of the construction work
• Collect data, conduct topographical ground survey work designed to establish baseline, elevation, boundaries, and other geodetic measurements
• Interpret project plans and coordinate critical dimensions effectively for civil earthwork
• Design, set and run the manual and robotic total station, effectively manage AutoCAD, TOPCON Office 3D and Trimble GPS equipment
• Calculate height, depth, relative position, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain by trigonometry and/or other mathematical methods
• Install construction staking to define cuts, fills and alignment for the equipment operators performing the dirt work
• Manage all documents and records related to the conflict and solutions pertaining to the completion of construction project work
• Work closely with the project management team to develop and design solutions and alternatives when conflict arises in the field

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate does not have to be a licensed surveyor, but does need to have experience in the following at a minimum:
• TopCon 3D- Office application
• AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Stakeout/ Layout
• Professional GPS equipment utilization (TopCon preferably)
• Design surface comparison
• Volume Calculations
• Propeller application
• Drone flight experience is a plus
• At least 3 years of field survey operations experience with soil or earthwork construction project
• Proficiency in Total Station, with ability to use dimensions from prints to calculate exact layout locations with GPS and robotics
• Basic understanding of earthwork, soil sampling equipment, construction equipment, materials and techniques related to civil/environmental construction
• Strong communication skills needed with an expertise in higher math skills, algebra, and trigonometry
• Must be willing to work outside in a construction environment with potential exposure to dust, noise, toxic materials, waste and infectious materials, as well as inclement weather conditions

Salary Range

$28.00 - $30.00 / hr

Actual compensation will be based on a variety of factors including relevant internal and external experience, knowledge, skills, scope of job, geographical location or other factors permitted by law
