Job summary

CLAD Consulting, Inc. seeks a Survey Technician Manager to support large-scale infrastructure projects across California and parts of Nevada.

You’ll provide field measurements, staking, and layout for public-works and utilities, coordinating with Project Managers, Construction Managers, and clients to ensure accurate documentation and timely execution. This full-time role includes supervising Survey Technicians, leveraging GPS and total stations, with GIS experience in Field Maps, Locusview,

Qualifications

  • 2–5+ years of field surveying experience in construction, civil, utility, or public works.
  • 2–5+ years of GIS experience with Field Maps, Locusview, ArcGIS, and/or Esri and Field Engineer as-built documentation.
  • Working towards or has a license through The California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists (BPELSG).
  • Proficiency with GPS, total station, and related surveying instruments.
  • Strong understanding of engineering plans, grading, utilities, and construction methods.
  • Ability to work independently in the field; strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of underground construction methods and jobsite safety practices.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a strong plus.
  • Willing to relocate to the greater San Luis Obispo, California area.
  • Ability to travel onsite daily through various locations throughout California and/or parts of Nevada.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction surveying including layout, staking, topographic surveys, as-builts, and grade verification.
  • Collect accurate field data using GPS, total stations, and other surveying equipment.
  • Interpret and verify engineering plans, specifications, utility maps, and construction documents.
  • Establish control points and maintain benchmarks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare survey notes, electronic files, sketches, and as-built documentation.
  • Verify field conditions and provide updates to Project Managers and Construction Managers.
  • Maintain organized, accurate records following CLAD standards and client requirements.
  • Identify discrepancies in the field and communicate recommended corrections.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, contractors, inspectors, and utility agencies.
  • Lead and manage a team of Survey Technicians, including task delegation, scheduling, timecard approval, and performance reviews.
  • Attend project meetings and support kickoff discussions with clear layout requirements.
  • Communicate project progress, issues, and survey needs in a timely, professional manner.
  • Follow all CLAD Consulting and client safety procedures.
  • Conduct work in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
  • Ensure proper care, calibration, and use of equipment.
  • Manage equipment and inventory.
  • Be responsible for company assets.
  • Travel to sites throughout California and Nevada.

Survey Technician Manager – CLAD Consulting, Inc.

Clad Consulting, Inc. is a Survey Technician Manager to join our growing team for a large-scale infrastructure project to support underground construction across roadways, highways, and municipalities throughout California and parts of Nevada. This role supports roadway, highway, and municipal underground construction projects and offers a strong entry point into inspection, engineering, and surveying career paths. Position Summary:

As a Survey Technician Manager, you’ll bring technical expertise, field experience, and a solutions-driven mindset to support our construction management and inspection teams. Your role will focus on providing accurate field measurements, staking, and layout support for public-works and utility construction projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Field Engineers, and clients to ensure precise documentation, compliance with plans/specifications, and timely project execution. This role includes managerial supervision of Survey Technicians throughout California and parts of Nevada. Key responsibilities include:

Field Surveying & Layout
  • Perform construction surveying including layout, staking, topographic surveys, as-builts, and grade verification.

This is a full-time position in Arroyo Grande, CA and requires travel to various sites throughout California and parts of Nevada. We are looking for candidates in the greater San Luis Obispo, California area. The hours of work will vary based on project location and may require day or night work. The reasonable pay range is between $95,000 to $155,000 per year, depending on experience and license certification. We offer company-provided benefits including health insurance, vacation, sick and holiday pay, 401k, and a company-provided vehicle.
